Using your own modem and/or router for internet access
Since 1 November 2024, customers in Belgium have the right to use their own modem/and or router for fixed internet services. This right was established by a decision from the BIPT. Important: your device must meet certain requirements. We’re happy to explain them below.
What requirements must your equipment meet?
Not all devices are compatible. To avoid network disruptions and loss of quality, your modem or router must:
- Comply with DIGI’s minimum technical specifications*
- Be safe for the network and its users
- Receive regular security updates from the manufacturer
Devices that do not meet these standards may be refused or deactivated.

How to activate your own modem or router?
1. Activate DIGI Fiber
Our technician will install and activate your connection using standard DIGI equipment. Once everything is working, you may switch to your own device.
2. Register your equipment
We need to register your own equipment. This can be done in two ways:
- During installation: Ask the technician to register your device.
- After installation: Contact our customer service team with your customer ID and device details.
What information do we need?
- Modem: Provide us with the PON serial number of your modem.
- Router: Connect your router to the ONT/modem and use the PPPoE login details we’ll provide. Make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your device.
Important:
- DIGI Fiber 500 Mbps & 1 Gbps: Connect your router behind the ONT in bridge mode.
- DIGI Fiber 10 Gbps: Your router must support a 10 Gbps WAN port and you should use a CAT6 or higher Ethernet cable.
What to do with your DIGI equipment?
Do not throw away your DIGI equipment. Always store it safely at home. You may need it again in the future for troubleshooting or reactivation.
Want to replace your device or switch back to DIGI equipment? Fill in the registration form again.
Important to know
Using your own modem and/or router is at your own risk. DIGI cannot guarantee the performance or quality of your connection and does not provide technical support for installation or troubleshooting when using third-party equipment.
