What makes DIGI Fiber different

What is DIGI Fiber?

DIGI Fiber is our ultra-fast fiber internet. Streaming, gaming, video calling, downloading, and surfing, all at the same time? No problem. DIGI Fiber is built for the way you're online today, and ready for whatever tomorrow brings.

Why is DIGI building its own fiber network?

You can rent a network as a provider, or you can just build your own. And that's exactly what DIGI is doing. Across Europe, we've already connected over 23 million homes. We've learned that when you do it yourself, you can truly make a difference – in speed, reliability and price.

By handling everything in-house, we can:

  • Solve problems faster
  • Roll out new technologies quicker
  • Offer more value for your money
  • Guarantee quality from start to finish

How we build our network

How does DIGI build its fiber network?

We build smart, fast, and with minimal disruption. Our fiber network has two layers:

  • Passive infrastructure: fiber cables, ducts, and distribution units
  • Active infrastructure: the technical equipment that powers your connection

We use three installation methods, depending on what works best in your area:

  1. Facade cabling: neatly along building walls
  2. Aerial cabling: over electric poles or across the street
  3. Underground cabling: through ducts below ground, ideally using existing ones to avoid unnecessary digging

This flexible approach allows us to connect more homes faster, without bothering your neighbourhood or your home.

Why does DIGI limit underground cabling?

Installing fiber underground often involves major digging works. It takes time, costs money, and usually causes disruption – think traffic issues, noise, and inconvenience for the neighbourhood.

That's why we prefer facade or aerial cabling whenever possible. This way, we can:

  • Connect homes more quickly
  • Limit disruption in your street or area
  • Keep costs low (so we can keep your internet affordable)

But sometimes, underground cabling is the only option. In those cases, we look for smart alternatives, like sharing existing ducts (Open Duct Access), to avoid digging up the same street multiple times.

What is 'Open Duct Access' and why does DIGI support it?

With 'Open Duct Access', multiple providers can use the same infrastructure to install their fiber cables, without each one having to dig their own ducts. We fully support this system because it prevents unnecessary digging and is both cheaper and less disruptive for you and your neighbourhood. Unfortunately, other operators are not willing to make this practice standard in Belgium for the time being.

How long does facade cabling take?

Facade cabling is usually surprisingly quick: often just a few minutes per home or a few hours for an entire street. Some steps, like connecting the final cable, might be completed later. But no worries: we always come back to finish the job neatly.

Our goal? To make the whole process as smooth and safe as possible.

Legal framework & permissions

What does the law say about DIGI’s fiber rollout?

DIGI is a recognised telecom operator in Belgium and operates under both federal and regional telecom legislation. These laws grant us the right to install fiber cables on public property and on the facades of private buildings.

Our work is always:

  • Fully compliant with Belgian legislation
  • Coordinated with local urban planning departments
  • Covered by all necessary permits and approvals (via official platforms like OSIRIS, GIPOD, or POWALCO)

For more information about the legal framework, visit www.infofibre.be/en.

Is DIGI allowed to attach cables to my facade?

Yes. DIGI is an officially recognised telecom operator and, under Belgian law, is allowed to install fiber cables on the facades of private buildings, even if other cables are already present. In principle, as a property owner, you cannot refuse this. Of course, we always carry out the work with full respect for your home and with the necessary permits.

Exception: For listed buildings (e.g. with heritage status), different rules apply. In those cases, you can submit an objection. Want to know more? Be sure to check this related question: I own a listed building. Can I refuse fiber cables on my facade?

I own a listed building. Can I refuse fiber cables on my facade?

Yes. If your property is officially recognised for its historical or architectural value, you have the right to refuse the installation of fiber equipment on your facade. We understand the importance of preserving heritage, and in such cases, we won't proceed with the installation.

Want to object a planned installation? Send us an email at care@digi-belgium.be with your address and the reason for your objection. We always notify residents in advance about planned works, so you have time to respond.

More information on your rights can be found on the official BIPT website: https://www.infofibre.be/en.

How do I become a DIGI Fiber customer?

  1.  Go to https://www.digi-belgium.be/en/internet-subscription-fiber.
  2. Enter your address to check availability.
  3. If DIGI Fiber is available, choose your plan and subscribe.
  4. Schedule your installation appointment. One of our technicians will connect your home, completely free of charge.

I live in an apartment. Can I still get DIGI Fiber?

Yes, you can, but buildings with multiple flats often require some preparation before individual units can be connected.

Send an email to connectmybuilding@digi-belgium.be with your contact details and the address you want to connect. We will then get in touch with you to arrange a meeting with your managing agent or co-owners' association.

Want to speed things up? Feel free to reach out to your managing agent directly and ask them to contact us.

I've ordered DIGI Fiber. What can I expect from the home installation?

The installation takes about 90 minutes and is carried out by two of our technicians. They'll connect your home to our fiber network and set up your DIGI Internet Box. This installation is completely free of charge.

Important: You'll need to be home during the appointment.

Managing agents & co-owners

I’m a managing agent. Can I have DIGI Fiber installed in my building?

Yes. As a managing agent, you're the key to bringing fast, future-proof internet to the residents of your building. But before residents can connect individually, a technical assessment is required.

Want to bring DIGI Fiber to your building? Send an email to syndics@digi-belgium.be. We'll check whether your building is ready for connection and guide you through the process step by step.

How is DIGI Fiber installed in my building?

  1. You submit a request

As the owner or managing agent, you submit a request via syndics@digi-belgium.be. This can be for one or multiple buildings at the same time.

      2. We visit the site

Our technical team visits the building to assess situation and map out the setup.

     3. We create a technical report

We draft a detailed technical report outlining the cabling and installation plan. This report needs to be approved by the building’s owner or managing agent.

    4. We install the internal cabling

Once approved, we install the fiber cabling inside the building, usually in the technical room. Installation is 100% free of charge.

    5. Residents make their own choice

DIGI Fiber is now available in the building. Residents are free to decide whether or not to switch to DIGI Fiber.

Do all residents need to switch to DIGI Fiber?

No, each resident is free to choose. We install a fiber cable to each unit's technical room by default, so switching later is super easy.

I manage multiple buildings. Can DIGI coordinate the rollout at once?

If you manage multiple buildings, we do our best to coordinate the planning and make the process as smooth as possible. Feel free to send us an overview of your buildings at syndics@digi-belgium.be. Our team will visit the sites for a technical inspection and an analysis of all locations.

Please note that we can't guarantee that all buildings will be connected at the same time, as we prioritise installations within our active network area.

Working with your municipality

How does DIGI coordinate with my municipality?

Before starting in a new area, we organise meetings to align with local authorities:

  • Policy meetings: We present the project and align the long-term vision with the municipality.
  • Technical coordination: We meet with the public works department to discuss rollout methods, safety, and timelines.

What permits are required to install fiber?

The required permits depend on the location, but usually include approvals related to:

  • Urban planning
  • Environment
  • Traffic and signage
  • Construction
  • Road occupancy

(Last updated: August 2025)

Where is DIGI rolling out next, and how are locations selected?

We're building our DIGI Fiber network across Belgium, starting in areas where we can make the biggest impact. Our rollout strategy is mainly based on population density:

  • Zone A: densely populated cities and neighbourhoods
  • Zone B: medium-density zones
  • Zone C: rural areas

Right now, we're focusing on zone A. We'll gradually expand to other areas as the network grows. Want to know if your area is included? Check your address on our website.
